FAQs About
Child Sponsorship
What does it cost to
sponsor a child?
The donation to sponsor a child is $300 a
year.
How often do I send in
my sponsorship donation?
When you sign up to sponsor a child you can
select monthly (PayPal subscription only), quarterly or annually...
whatever schedule will work best for you.
If I select
monthly or quarterly donations, when are the
donation amounts due?
If you subscribe to PayPal's automatic
payments, your due dates will be
automatically determined from the date you
sign up.
Otherwise, your quarterly
donations will be expected
March 1st, June 1st, September 1st, and
December 1st.
Will you send me a
reminder for when my donations are due?
If you think you may need a reminder, you
can let us know and we'll put you on our
"reminder" mailing list. However, you can
also sign up for our donation subscription
service through PayPal so that you no longer
have to keep track of when donations are
expected.
What donation methods
are available to me?
If possible, we prefer that you send a check
or money order for your sponsorship
donations. However, if you wish to use your
Visa/MasterCard, click on the
Donate quick
link on the left hand side of the home page
of
www.nclo.org and you will be able to
make an online donation. You can also sign
up for our donation subscription service
through PayPal. NCLO is assessed a
3% service fee for these on-line payments and so
we appreciate checks if possible.
What
happens if I forget to send in my
sponsorship donation?
Please send it as soon as you remember! We
wire sponsorship funds to Cambodia only once
per quarter so if your donation is late, it
may end up missing the wire transfer that
quarter. We count on your donation being
there so that we can maintain a consistent
level of support for the children each
month. We will attempt to contact you via
email if your donation is overdue. If an
entire quarter passes without your donation
being received, we may reassign your child
to a new sponsor.
When will I be matched
with a child?
Once you
have completed your child sponsorship form,
you will be logged into our system as being
interested in sponsoring. Once we receive
your first sponsorship donation, we will
match you with your child as soon
as possible. Usually this is a
relatively quick process and you will be
informed of your sponsor child within a
week's time.
A friend of mine is
sponsoring a child at an outreach location. May I
also sponsor a child at one of your outreach
locations?
In March 2007 NCLO made the decision to no
longer assign children at the outreach
locations to child sponsors.
This decision was made because children at
the outreach locations are frequently
"transient", returning to their home
villages or remaining family members without
notice, making it very difficult for us to
maintain a stable individual sponsorship
program at the outreach locations. Sponsors
who were assigned to a child at an outreach
location prior to March 2007 have been
"grandfathered" and have been given the
option of maintaining their sponsorship as
long as possible.
Will I receive photos
and updates on my child?
Yes! You will receive access to NCLO WORKS where
you will be able to view the latest photos
of your child and their facility throughout
the year.
Can I send gifts to my
child?
You are welcome to purchase gifts for your
child through
Psah NCLO, our online Market. Be sure to
check
NCLO WORKS to find out your child's
current needs.
May I send letters to
my child?
We have a wonderful E-Pal program that will
allow you to communicate regularly with your
child. To learn more,
May I visit my child?
Sure! They would love it and we would love
for you to experience NCLO first hand. We do
require that all onsite visitors or
volunteers register with NCLO.
Click
here to learn more.
This protects
the integrity of our program, minimizing the
possibility of those unaffiliated with NCLO
to show up unannounced.
What does my child
sponsorship donation go toward?
Your donation goes toward the complete care
and upbringing of your child including food,
shelter, clothing, medical care, dental
care, education, entertainment, and
miscellaneous expenses.
How much of my
donation goes directly to support the
children?
We are very proud of our capability of
keeping our operating expenses VERY low. 95%
of donations directly benefit the children.
Is my sponsorship
donation tax deductible?
Every state/country has different laws regarding
donations to charities. Please check with
your state/country. NCLO is classified as a 501c3
non-profit charity and in general, donations
to our organization are tax deductible.
