NCLO Prepares for 5th
Anniversary
FENTON, MICHIGAN, April 5, 2007 – Not-for-profit Fenton-based organization NCLO announced
this week that it is preparing for its upcoming 5th Anniversary in
May by making several changes to its overall image and programs.
"We
felt we needed a new look to commemorate all the improvements that
are in process" says Director Elizabeth Mallory. The new look
includes a new logo and a new color scheme while still incorporating
many of the same components found in the organization's previous
logo.
NCLO
WORKS, the charity's communication portal, is one of the many
improvements that are on the way. The site was originally launched
in October 2006 allowing Sponsors and E-Pals access to information
about their children. "The new release of NCLO WORKS takes this to
the next level" says Mallory "by providing specific wish lists for
the individual children, video footage, forums, and general public
access to updates on each of the facilities where we are working."
The
organization will also re-release a past-favorite website NCLO SAM
which stands for Smiles Across the Miles. "SAM" was originally
launched in Fall of 2005 as the charity's news site. When NCLO WORKS
launched in 2006, "SAM" was pulled from the Internet for re-design.
"We didn't want to be duplicating efforts and so we took a good long
look at SAM and how it would best serve the public" said Mallory.
The organization chose to re-launch "SAM" to meet the needs of its
ever growing number of volunteers. The new site will list both
offsite as well as onsite long term and short term volunteer
opportunities, provide a forum for answering questions, and enable
onsite volunteers to write about their experience volunteering with
NCLO.
Programs are also being revamped for 2007, including the charity's
well-established child sponsorship program, the onsite volunteer
program, and NCLO's outreach programs. "If there is an underlying
theme for 2007," says Operations Director Sandi Smith "it would be
that we want to focus on what we do best and do it even better."
Many processes have been simplified including registering to
volunteer onsite. The charity has also implemented a "fixed" child
sponsorship donation. "We gave the sponsorship levels design a go,
but it really seemed to just add more confusion and complication to
the program" says board member John Mallory.
Other changes include the charity offering room and board to
visitors and volunteers at its Children's Home in Cambodia which is currently
home to nine orphans ranging in age from 4 to 11 years old. "We are
excited to be able to offer this to both adoptive families returning
to Cambodia with their children as well as to our volunteers." As
the result of a grant from the Tennessee-based foundation Alliance for Youth Achievement, NCLO will also launch its own fundraising tuk-tuk business by
mid-year.
"There are so many great things coming in 2007. We're very excited
about all the improvements" says Mallory.
